Post 6872 Commanders Comments The time has come and the holidays are almost over. I hope every one had a safe season. We have accomplished a lot during the year with our programs. We support the VA clinic; the band making trips to the nursing homes; Bill volunteering at the hospital; Bud doing Meals on Wheels; the fish fries; and Henry and Carolyn making sure that the ones who are down receive a card to let them know some one cares. There are so many to name. There is a lot going on and I want to thank each and every one for the job they do. This shows we are an active post doing for our community. We still need a little more support. Well its next year already, how time flys. If you can think of anything to do for the community and the post, lets talk about it at the next meeting on the 10 of January. I hope we have a good turn out to see what we’re going to do this next year. Remember some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. Veterans don't have that problem. David Bowers, Commander Senior Vice Commander I normally don’t have any comments as all the news is covered by other officers. As the Post web master, I do have some news though. I am working on a page for web links that provide information for veterans. Those sites that are buried deep within the Veterans Administration bureaucracy. Links to forms. Guidelines the VA staff must follow. Retiree benefits. Tri-Care and Champ-VA. Thanks to Bill Porter and Hal Cleveland for compiling this list and staying on top of it. The list is very long. Therefore it will only be available online. If you don’t do computers, get in touch with the Commander. He will direct you to someone who can help or answer your questions. The page should be up shortly after the first of the year. Please take a look and let me know if there are changes or additions to be made. Andy Asberry, Sr. Vice-Commander
Quartermaster’s Comments I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. If I left your birthday off the calendar, have a Happy Birthday anyway. Don’t forget breakfast is at 9 AM and the meeting is at 11 AM. I would like to see everyone out for the first meeting of the year. Thanks to all who sent their dues in so we might make Honor Roll. We fell a little short…maybe next year. Thank you. Larry Seaton, Quartermaster.
Bingo Update - Bill Porter (Bingo Chairman) Hello Comrades. Sorry I missed you in the December Newsletter. Well, the Bingo Committee did not meet in November or December so there is no new revelation in how we will conduct our business. Along with still producing some income for us, our Bingo activity is still showing promise of growing and here we are starting a brand new year. So we will see what will happen. If you find some spare time during the holidays, come down some Sunday evening (the fun starts at 18:00 hrs (6:00 PM for you all who forgot the military jargon) and spend some time with us. Who knows, you might even have some fun and win back some money you spent on Christmas. So until the next time...ubada..ubada..ubada..Dats All Folks!
Chaplain’s Comments Well another year has flown by. It seems that as a person gets older time picks up speed. It takes on the form of something more precious and valuable than the rarest diamond or other precious gems. I have often found myself trying to reflect back on things that have happened in the past. I soon realized that it has all become what we can refer to as History. We need to take as an example the Holy GOD Inspired words of the Apostle Paul as written in Philippians 3. He came to realize that he hadn’t reached Life’s Finish Line and he had to keep looking for the Ultimate Prize that GOD had promised Mankind. He kept looking towards the future, knowing full well that he hadn’t learned or accomplished everything that was out there to be achieved. Our Post has been Praying for an increase in Membership and it has come in the form of a recent merger with another Post. This may be the answer that we have been hoping for. This will give us more shoulders to put to the “Wheel” in order to reach our Goal of helping our Fellow Comrades, our Community and our Country, a reality that has long been sought. This reminds me of a story that my Father used to tell me about how he “Banked” the fire in the old Potbelly stove before going to bed. This was so the fire wouldn’t go out during the night. Then the next morning starting with small bits of wood the fire would be brought back to a blazing life of usefulness. We have lots of programs to pursue, not simply for our own benefit but to know that we have helped others. Let’s give it a go in the upcoming year of 2009. Henry L. Spells, Chaplain
Ladies Auxiliary President’s Comments Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and the New Year is starting off right. We sent all our reports off and took care of the nursing homes for Christmas. We sent our package to our unit also took care of several families that needed our help. We delivered the toys to Cook’s Childrens Hospital. Please remember our members and keep in touch with each one. We need more communication among ourselves. Our dinner this month will be enchiladas, with all the fixings. Hope to see everyone. Pray for our
Troops and all our members that are sick. Jan Seaton Auxiliary Chaplain I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas. I know our family did. Birthday greetings for the month of January go out to Pauline West and Mary Bingamen. We wish both of these ladies a very happy birthday. If we have overlooked anyone, please forgive us. This year went pretty good for our ladies auxiliary. Now '09 is upon us and there will be plenty to do. Sister Pauline West is still in lots of pain. And we need to keep her in our prayers. Also our men and women in uniform. News is kinda scarce. Until next month, be good to each other and God Bless. Happy New Year to everyone. Carolyn Lawler
